Please Recycle Me

This piece is a reflective commentary on the environmental and political climate, inspired in part by Ellen Gallagher’s “Bird in Hand” (2006) and Maya Angelou’s poem “Still I Rise”.

This work likens the view towards the environment and single use plastics to racism and racial issues. The work references the 1968 Olympics black power salute, election campaigns, the black lives matter movement, Brexit  and extinction rebellion among others.

Asking the question who is winning the environmental race? Exploring the power of Politicians, the public and prejudice within our society. Printed on recycled paper the title “Please Recycle Me” reflects the throw away culture we have accepted through moral complacencies.
