Order and Discord
My work is a response to human behaviour and our relationship to consumerism. Using packaging to generate awareness about the environment and question the part we play.
Challenging our natural world with the man-made, creating both order and discord. Starting to observe my surroundings, finding possibilities from found material in my day to day, that is simply discarded. Exploring materiality and process, I felt compelled to communicate a message from the landscape.
Being a process lead artist and while experimenting with print, I struggled with the use of toxic substances and wanted to apply a more conscious approach to printmaking. Because of my subject matter I made a decision to be more sustainable, using no ink, just embossing. As an artist, I feel I have a responsibility to help the viewer forge the connection between art, consumerism and sustainability.
