Nature's Odyssey

As Modern Languages and Culture students, we decided to create a piece of art based on writing and lyrics. We agreed to represent our ideas through a poem which is divided into three parts. Each one focuses on a period of time and depending on that time, it develops the topic we have chosen. The theme is the human-nature relationship which leads to water waste, climate change, conflict and makes us question ourselves about the future. The first part is concentrated on how this relationship used to be. Back when humans did not have the capacity to damage Earth widely and everything was healthier and less polluted. In the second one, we introduce the trouble, as the title says. This part describes the beginning of the industrialization and how humans denigrated nature and so on, themselves. Moreover, it mentions how the man caused problems, not only in the environmental aspect, but also in the social part. This part of the poem is very realistic and has a lot of things going on within it. The last part focuses on the future and the things humans could do to change the planet’s fate. It also mentions some people who have dedicated their lives to have a better planet. It also gives a hopeful message and that is what we want people to keep from the poem.

Nature’s odyssey I The beginning Nature and humans beings once used to be one self; one used to be harmonious and the other used to maintain respect. Green and blue all over. Many animals and big trees, we did not have problems to agree with the things nature could give. The sky was clear as the buildings were not there, birds had space to fly without fear. Everything was great in the biosphere. The base of life on Earth was still fresh and healthy. untreated water was not bad for all living being’s safety. The cape that surrounded us was a mystery for humanity. No pollution, just pure air between the clouds and the hills.

II The trouble Then, greed took our minds. More resources were needed. While there were more humans, balance ́s declination was speeded. So much trash and space wasted due to selfish and ignorant people. That was the fate we created for Earth, that was the beginning of Earth’s issues. They stood out in the last century, the consequences were shown. The air, the ecosystems, the water all of them are wearing down. The chemical named glyphosate is a polluting agent example. They believed it could be handled but ended up as a debate. From the extinction of the Dodo to Tasmanian tiger as well, while time passes and humans increase their numbers, they drove other species to the end. Men have treated animals cruelly, but several people have tried to clear our minds showing us we can treat other species with sympathy as Jane Goodall did with chimpanzees. Not being satisfied with introducing climate change humans started creating borders among each other. Not wanting to turn the page, they created more disorder. We did not know how long Earth could last. It was better to be ignorant. We would not cause damage along our path. Can you imagine a world like that?

III The future Can you imagine a world where we think more consciously, and act less ambitiously? Neither do I. Wangari Maathai and Rachel Carson are people who thought further: Jane Goodall, Henry Thoreau And one of us can be the other. The change can not be achieved until we take part on our own. We need to remember what seems to be unknown, What is coexistence and peace? Do you know? Their real meaning has been forgotten Now, it is associated with no war but it is needed in nature, in politics, in society and in people’s lives overall. It is never too late to look back and worry about our planet. It is never too late to act, there is always a solution and a manner.
